Bret Hart Congratulates The Undertaker On A Great Career, Calls Him WWE's All Time Greatest War Horse Article Pic

During an interview on HN Live in 2023, WWF Legend Bret Hart talked about today’s professional wrestling and why he doesn’t enjoy it. Here’s what The Hitman said:

“I don’t really enjoy today’s wrestling. They’ve lost a lot of steps towards the reality or credibility of wrestling. Wrestling always, in my opinion, needs to pretend to be real. It needs to pretend really hard to be real, always has pretended really hard almost to the point that you believe it is real. I think wrestling is so far-fetched today.

When I think of WWE, for example, and I see 20 wrestlers crowd together outside on the floor of the ring and some guy runs over and dives over the top rope and knocks them all down like bowling pins, I really roll my eyes at how pathetic wrestling is today. From top to bottom, all the top wrestlers and all the middle and bottom wrestlers in WWE and AEW all slapping on their legs on every punch and every slap, it’s to the point now where I can’t watch wrestling today.

Sadly, it’s getting too phony. I really question the direction that the people that are in charge.”

On his Six Feet Under podcast, WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker talked about Bret Hart and their matches from the 90s.

Undertaker also addressed how fans call Bret “bitter” for criticizing today’s wrestling. Here’s what The Deadman said:

“Bret loved the business. He took a lot of pride in what he did, as he should. I think he gets a lot of crap because he doesn’t like a lot of how they do things right now. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. Just because you don’t agree doesn’t mean that you have the right [to say] he’s sour or he’s this.

He’s not sour, it’s just not the way he did it. I’ve had to deal with that. I’ve had to kind of learn and accept the fact that the business has evolved and although they don’t do it the way maybe I would have done it, it’s the way it’s done now.

He did take a lot of pride in being a wrestler and telling stories and having matches the way that he did. People need to lighten up and not worry so much about what people say because everybody’s entitled to their opinion. You don’t have to agree with somebody.

It drives me a little crazy, like the vitriol that comes out and people that get hateful about different things. It’s entertainment. We’re trying to evoke emotion. That’s his opinion, let him have his opinion. We all have one and we’re all entitled to it. You don’t have to get ugly.”
