WWE Hall of Famer Scott Steiner criticized the current era of professional wrestling with the following tweet:
“Today’s wrestling is soft. Back in my day, we didn’t need 20-minute promos or social media beef—we handled business with suplexes, Steinerlines, and the Recliner. That’s the difference. My era of wrestling was the hardest hitting era of all time. Period.”
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio last month, Steiner called current wrestlers “spot monkeys”:
“You know, it’s too… it’s a spot show, you know? A bunch of spot monkeys — that was the term. It’s like, man, nowadays, you take a DDT, and they pop up and go right back to doing a DDT again, like nothing really means anything. It’s almost like a performance with the stars. Yeah, it’s like a performance.
I wish they would scale it back. You’ve got to make it make sense. You can’t just have somebody punching you in the face and acting like it didn’t hurt.
In a real fight, a punch is going to hurt. A poke in the eye is going to hurt. That’s the only thing I don’t like — it doesn’t make sense.”
Prior to this, Big Poppa Pump also teased something for WrestleMania 41 week:
“WrestleMania week in Vegas sounds like the perfect time for something BIG… maybe a test of strength, maybe a little Steiner domination. You freaks better stay ready. More details coming soon.”
