During an interview with Soy Eduardo Bates, Alberto Del Rio addressed the growing backlash against former AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo, who has faced mixed crowd reactions since becoming one of the top names in Mexican wrestling.

“I have nothing but respect for El Hijo del Vikingo,” Del Rio said. “He’s a great wrestler, a great prospect – someone who’s going to go very far in this business.”

However, Del Rio noted that the fans’ negative chants are out of his hands. “No one can control the audience,” he stated. “They love or hate whoever they want. The people felt deceived, betrayed. I just go out and do my job.”

Del Rio even compared his situation to that of Maximus from Gladiator, saying: “I have the fortune to look my enemy in the eyes and decide my destiny. The rest – that’s up to the fans.”

Why AAA Fans Are Booing El Hijo del Vikingo & Want Alberto Del Rio Back

In Mexico, wrestling fans have been booing El Hijo del Vikingo despite his talent, and the reason is tied to Alberto Del Rio.

Del Rio is credited with helping AAA recover from financial and creative struggles. While working as a heel, he won over the crowd with his promos and began to draw significant attention.

However, when WWE got involved with AAA, things changed. WWE hurried the end of Del Rio’s title run and began pushing Vikingo as the new champion. This, along with promoting him as a “Megacampeón” before he had even won the title, led fans to believe that WWE had a vendetta against Del Rio.

This perceived interference and favoritism sparked resentment among fans, which has since been directed at Vikingo.
