Below are a couple of top AEW & WWE news stories of the day, featuring Miro, Ricky Starks, The Undertaker & Goldberg.
• Not long after AEW removed Malakai Black from its roster page—confirming his free agency—Ricky Starks and Miro were also taken off the roster.
According to PWInsider, AEW and Miro reached a mutual agreement for his departure. However, it remains unclear whether Starks has officially been released.
WrestlePurists, with confirmation from Fightful, previously reported that Starks had requested his release from AEW, but Tony Khan refused to grant it. Starks has not appeared on AEW programming since March 2024 and has expressed uncertainty about why he isn’t being used.
Miro had also requested his release after being absent since Worlds End 2023. Although there were discussions about his return for AEW matches, no creative agreement was reached.
Starks is expected to draw interest from WWE once he is officially free from his AEW contract.
• At Super ShowDown 2019 in Saudi Arabia, The Undertaker defeated Goldberg in one of the most infamous main events in WWE history.
On an episode of Six Feet Under, Justin Danger Nunley shared that he hesitated to mention the match while Goldberg was with Undertaker. However, Undertaker brought it up himself, admitting once again that they had a poor performance.
Here’s what The Deadman said:
“He’s wound a little tight sometimes. Good dude, though. He was kind of thrust into something you can’t blame him for. They created him and it was a huge deal. That Saudi thing was a little ugly.
My mindset going into the whole thing was like, at this point in my career, how often do you get to work with somebody that you’ve never (worked with)? I’ve worked with everybody for the last 30-plus years, but I never worked with Bill. Singles match, that’s the only one, and I stunk the joint up.
It was 98 degrees, nine at night, outside. You could chew the air it was so thick. It was just one of those things. There’s not any humidity. Just heat. It was bad. At that time of night, too, whew.”
