Below are a couple of top AEW & WWE news stories of the day, featuring Rey Fenix and Giovanni Vinci.

• Rey Fenix’s status in AEW has become a source of frustration—both for him and for fans eager to see him wrestle again. Despite not being used, he is unable to leave as AEW extended his contract due to time missed from injury.

It’s believed the added time amounts to nearly a year. Once his contract runs out, Fenix is expected to reunite with Penta as the Lucha Bros, with WWE reportedly showing interest in signing them. Penta, who recently debuted in WWE, has already been gaining momentum as a rising star.

In an interview with Lalo Elizarrarás, Fenix shared that he has been keeping busy with outside projects while continuing to train for his eventual return. When asked about his contract situation, he confirmed:

“Yes, basically, I’m still under contract with an additional extension. I am waiting to be used, to be called to work, or to have my situation clarified a little more.”

Last year, Fenix tweeted the following about All Elite Wrestling:

“I will have my chance to speak the truth. No one stays in a place where they received inhumane treatment.”

• Giovanni Vinci was among the names released during WWE’s latest wave of roster cuts. Vinci had support from some within WWE, but his return with a fresh character update wasn’t given any real follow-through.

With Vinci absent from television for some time, many assumed he had been pushed down the roster. His lack of TV appearances only added to the speculation, as he hadn’t competed on-screen in quite a while.

Here’s what Fightful Select reported:

“There were some in the company that were high on Giovanni Vinci upon creating the vignettes for him last year. That didn’t end up conveying to TV, and most that we’ve spoken to believe he was pushed down the card with them knowing he wouldn’t be brought back.”
