• Tony Khan Reveals Whether WWE Contacted AEW To Use Edge For John Cena’s Final Match

The Last Time Is Now tournament is underway to determine John Cena’s final opponent at next month’s Saturday Night’s Main Event. The lineup has already included surprise entrants from outside WWE such as Zack Ryder and Dolph Ziggler, but many fans were hoping to see Edge (aka Adam Copeland) make a return.

Speculation ramped up after Copeland took time off from AEW following All Out, with some believing he could appear in the tournament. However, that did not happen.

Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, AEW President Tony Khan confirmed that WWE never reached out about bringing back Copeland.

“Never say never in wrestling, because I would imagine they could always extend [John Cena’s] date past the end of the year. But no – Adam’s going to be here with us through the year.

Adam Copeland is a huge part of AEW, and I have so much respect for him. I really, really like Adam a lot, and I’m glad to have him here. Even though he’s away filming, he’s still with us and will continue to be.”

With last night’s RAW, all 16 participants in the tournament were confirmed, so Copeland returning is impossible now.

• Injured WWE Star To Start Preparing For In-Ring Return Soon

Chad Gable last wrestled as El Grande Americano at WWE x AAA: Worlds Collide, where he headlined the show in a losing effort against El Hijo del Vikingo for the AAA Mega Championship.

Gable underwent shoulder surgery in the summer and has been out of action since.

According to PWInsider, he is expected to be at the WWE Performance Center this week as he begins working towards his in-ring return.

During his absence, Ludwig Kaiser has portrayed the El Grande Americano character. Kaiser recently lost the WWE Speed Championship to Jasper Troy, a title Gable originally won from Dragon Lee in May.

As he starts preparing for his comeback, Gable’s stablemates, The Creed Brothers, are also rumored to return soon.
