Former WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair has opened up about one of the most painful and private chapters of her life, revealing her struggles with fertility treatments and the collapse of her third marriage. Writing in The Players’ Tribune, Charlotte shared that in February 2024, she began her fertility journey, determined to start a family despite the pressures of being a female athlete approaching 40.
She admitted that the process was grueling, both physically and emotionally. “I’m not ashamed to say I went through four rounds (five tries) of fertility last year, with no luck,” Charlotte wrote. “And I’m not ashamed to say that that process gutted me, and spiritually exhausted me.”
Her efforts to become a mother collided with other personal challenges, including a devastating knee injury in December 2023 that required surgery and extensive rehabilitation. The fertility treatments and recovery from injury intertwined in difficult ways. “I couldn’t do jumping exercises because of my fertility … but those are exactly the exercises I needed to rehab my knee,” she explained.
Around the same time, Charlotte faced the heartbreak of her third divorce. She described how the stress from her fertility journey strained her marriage, and how the unraveling of her relationship added to the pain. “It felt like the stress from my fertility had harmed my marriage … but then it felt like the stress from my divorce was now harming my fertility,” she confessed.
Charlotte described 2023 as a year where she felt she couldn’t win despite trying her hardest in every aspect of her life.
“It was like for an entire year, I just couldn’t win. I was trying so damn hard, at all these things, but it’s like the harder I tried, the worse everything got.”
Despite the setbacks, Charlotte said she is determined to own her experiences and find her path forward.
