UPDATE: Eddie Gilbert’s Father Suing ESPN Along With WWE

As we noted earlier today, TMZ reported that Tommy Gilbert, who is the father of late pro-wrestler Eddie Gilbert, is suing WWE as he claims that the company is using his late son’s likeness on their programming and isn’t paying the royalties that he deserves (he is the incharge of his son’s estate).

In an update on that news, latest reports suggest that Tommy Gilbert is also suing ESPN & ESPN Classics for airing Eddie Gilbert’s matches from Global Wrestling Federation. WWE issued the following statement regarding this:

“Through the years, WWE has acquired the legal rights to library footage of various former wrestling organizations including Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and Mid-Southern Wrestling among many others. WWE has made these substantial investments to acquire these copyrighted works and has the legal right to use them. Similar cases in the past have been unsuccessful and we expect this case to be dismissed.”
