Since the inception of AEW, one of the most popular debates among pro wrestling fans and legends has been the comparison in the quality of Tony Khan’s promotion and WWE.
WWE Hall of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley is very vocal about the topic, and he feels that AEW as a product is lost. The legend recently took to X to post the following about the company:
“Unfortunate, but… AEW, as a product, is lost. There’s certainly some bright spots (talent) – but as a company, lacks definitive direction. Is what it is. A company owned and operated by a fan with lots of $$
TK – Good guy, good heart, not a booker
And ‘the boys’ know it”
Ricochet, who made the jump from WWE to AEW a year ago, disagreed with the Hall of Famer and implied that The Bloodline storyline carried WWE’s reputation and brainwashed people into thinking that the company was doing good, while it really wasn’t outside of that storyline.
“I think 2 years of one good consistent storyline brainwashed people.
Cause I remember showing up to the arenas and sh*t was sad. House shows and tv were empty! Even with the same guys on top, No attendance, no one was watching on TV. Stories were being repeated over and over.”
A fan then replied the following to him:
“The Bloodline Storyline was a Vince project and Triple H was fortunate enough to ride the coattails off it when the regime changed.
Creating a major storyline that gets hot is very challenging for any Booker and even Triple H has yet to create his own.”
Ricochet replied by saying that it wasn’t even Vince McMahon who was responsible for the success of The Bloodline angle. He likely meant that it was Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman, who reportedly had creative control of the storyline as per reports from the past.
“And that wasn’t even Vince. Sure he allowed it to happen. But it was the boys in the back making that what it was.”
The former Intercontinental Champion also tweeted that he disagrees with Dudley.
“100% disagree with you.”
