• Nikki Bella Addresses WrestleMania Controversy Involving Cody Rhodes
Nikki Bella still carries a bitter memory from WrestleMania 29, one that stings more because of what people have claimed about it since. While appearing on Cody Rhodes’ ‘What Do You Wanna Talk About?’ podcast, the former Divas Champion didn’t hesitate to speak her mind when the topic came up. Cody had brought out a backstage photo from that night, showing himself, Nikki, Brie Bella, and Damian Sandow, all dressed to perform but sidelined in the end.
They were scheduled to compete in an eight-person tag team match alongside each other, facing Brodus Clay, Tensai, Naomi, and Cameron. But the match was pulled while the group was already waiting at Gorilla Position, fully ready to head out. “It was sad,” Nikki said. “And not funny.”
The match did end up happening the next night on Monday Night RAW, but the moment was already lost. What’s bothered Nikki even more is the speculation that WWE may have scrapped the match on purpose, not for timing, but for the sake of drama.
Cody addressed that rumor directly. “The conspiracy was that the match was never supposed to happen in the first place, that the drama of it being cut would be entertaining,” he told her. “But I felt like we… weren’t thinking that.”
Nikki said: “I’ve heard this a lot. I mean, then, it was kind of notorious that the matches would get cut, right? So I feel like it actually really did get cut. But if they cut it for drama for TV, that actually pi$$es me off.”
