In the main event of SummerSlam 2025 – Night 2, Cody Rhodes defeated John Cena in a Street Fight to win the Undisputed WWE Championship. In an emotional scene after the match, Cena put over Rhodes. Brock Lesnar then returned to WWE after 2 years and laid out Cena with an F5.
According to PWInsider, WWE secretly brought Brock Lesnar to New Jersey last night under the cover of darkness and was hidden backstage all day today. Even the WWE writers were kept in dark about Lesnar’s comeback.
On the SummerSlam Night 2 post-show, WWE’s Chief Content Officer Triple H was asked about his reaction to Brock Lesnar returning to the company after two years. Here’s what The Game said:
“My reaction was exactly what I thought it was gonna be, which was if there had been a roof on this place, it wouldn’t be there anymore. The dynamic in the room, if you want to say, but the WWE, the dynamic in the room changes with The Beast.
Anything that you thought was happening sort of all goes out the window because the factor of Brock now just changes that dynamic so incredibly that makes it unpredictable. So yeah, just incredible to have him back.”
Triple H then indirectly confirmed that whatever is happening with John Cena during the retirement tour is Cena’s wish and Cena wanted to work with Brock before retiring:
“As you’re doing this, when you come in, you know, you have a finite number of dates on John Cena. You don’t know of a finite number of big matches and big moments and incredible things that you want to do and you want to get to the most, you know, majority of them. You can’t get to every single one of them. You can’t get to everything.
But as I said in the beginning, sort of for me, this is John Cena’s wish list. It’s him writing the last chapter of his book. And I think people saw a conversation with us where he said we’d have to screw it up pretty badly to ruin his career. But it’s not about that for me. It’s about John being able to go out the way he wants to go out to write his chapter.
I know what that’s like as a performer. I know what that’s like for everybody to feel that. And I think for John to be able to do what he wants to do. So it’s one of the first, very first things I said to him is, ‘What do you want and how?’, and we’re working through that.”
