• Update On John Cena’s Retirement

WrestleVotes reports that WWE is preparing to officially reveal the long-awaited details of John Cena’s retirement match very soon, with the announcement potentially coming as early as Sunday, September 28.

Earlier this month, WrestleVotes reported that Cena’s retirement match will take place on December 13 on Saturday Night’s Main Event at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. WWE hasn’t officially announced this yet.

It was rumored for months that the 17-time World Champion’s retirement match would take place in Boston, Massachusetts, since his father said that in an interview. However, the Wrestling Observer reports that WWE wanted more money than Boston was offering, which is why Washington D.C. will get to host Cena’s final match.

The company wanted money similar to what they got from New Jersey for SummerSlam, which would have been for multiple shows the weekend of 12/12 to 12/15. Boston didn’t bid high enough, which is why the company moved the event to Washington, D.C.

• WWE vs. TNA PLE Being Planned

This week’s NXT saw the Winner Takes All match between NXT Champion Oba Femi and TNA World Champion Trick Williams end in Disqualification after Mike Santana attacked Trick. TNA stars then invaded NXT, resulting in a brawl between wrestlers from both brands.

According to Fightful Select, this was not a one-off crossover. The invasion angle is part of a long-term plan tied to TNA’s Bound For Glory pay-per-view on October 12 in Lowell, Massachusetts. No shows have been scheduled immediately after Bound For Glory, likely allowing TNA to coordinate future tapings with NXT events, possibly even in the same venues.

TNA’s next scheduled dates are in November in Orlando, Florida, though no venue has been listed. This is reportedly intentional, as the NXT–TNA partnership could allow TNA to tape multiple weeks of television in the same area as WWE’s weekly NXT shows.

Sources also indicate that some TNA tapings following Bound For Glory may take place inside the WWE Performance Center and might not appear on standard ticketing sites.

WWE Legends and current TNA World Tag Team Champions The Hardy Boyz are reportedly being considered for roles in the invasion storyline as well.

In an update on this situation, Bodyslam reports that WWE and TNA have been discussing the idea of a joint PLE or television special built around an “Invasion” theme, involving talent from both NXT and TNA.

In addition, WWE has recently filed a trademark for the term ‘Invasion’.

• Why Edge Is Going Away From AEW

On this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, backstage footage from All Out was shown. Adam Copeland (Edge) told Christian Cage that he has to go take care of his family after FTR attacked Beth Copeland (Beth Phoenix).

Christian said that he no longer has a family so he understands why Copeland must leave and be with his family.

Copeland said that Christian does have a family and shook his hand. Adam said he doesn’t know if he’s going to come back.

Some fans started rumors that Copeland is leaving AEW to return to WWE as Edge and face John Cena before Cena’s retirement tour ends. However, that’s not the case.

According to PWInsider, Cope was written off AEW TV so he could go film the final season of Percy Jackson.
