• Why Santos Escobar Turned Down More Money & Left WWE
As of today, Santos Escobar is no longer part of WWE and is a free agent. His contract expired and he didn’t sign a new deal. WWE even offered a contract with a higher salary, but Escobar turned that down as well.
Escobar’s decision not to renew his WWE contract reportedly had less to do with money and more to do with creative direction.
In an update from PWInsider, Escobar was upfront with WWE officials about his hesitation to sign a new deal in recent weeks. Sources say his main concern wasn’t salary or promises of a push, but rather the lack of a defined plan for his character and role moving forward.
Escobar wanted to ensure that if he re-signed, WWE had a clear creative roadmap for him. Without that, he feared being locked into a contract only to spend months “spinning his wheels” and not being used meaningfully on television.
The report adds that Escobar expressed these concerns directly during internal discussions, showing that his decision was based on professional frustration rather than financial demands.
Escobar, who first gained global attention as El Hijo del Fantasma and King Cuerno before joining WWE in 2020, has been largely absent from programming in recent months. His last match was at a WWE Supershow in Mexico.
• Hollywood Actor Accuses TKO Of Butchering John Cena’s Retirement Tour
During an interview on TMZ’s Inside The Ring podcast, Hollywood actor Paul Walter Hauser was asked about John Cena’s retirement tour and Hauser isn’t happy with the booking.
He also questioned WWE’s decision to have Brock Lesnar defeat the 17-time World Champion. Here’s what he said:
“It’s TKO. They’re butchering it. I think it would have been nice if John Cena’s farewell tour included a great mesh of prior opponents that have known him for 20 years and future stars who could use the rub.
I would have loved to have seen Cena fight people like The Miz. I would have loved to see Cena fight (Chris) Jericho, The Miz, Sheamus, Triple H, and beat Brock (Lesnar). Why did they do that? It just feels so pointless. Why? What was the point? Seriously guys, what was the point of that?”
