• Big Update On WWE Backlash
WWE’s international premium live event plans for 2026 may include a familiar and successful destination. Puerto Rico is once again in the mix to host one of the company’s major post-WrestleMania shows.
According to Post Wrestling, WWE has penciled in Backlash 2026 for San Juan, Puerto Rico. While WWE has not publicly confirmed the location or date, the source noted that the company’s internal scheduling currently lists the event for Saturday, May 9, 2026.
The timing of the event would also place it shortly after WrestleMania 42, which is scheduled for April 18 and 19, 2026, in Las Vegas.
If the plan holds, it would mark WWE’s first return to Puerto Rico since 2023 – a trip that proved wildly successful. That year’s Backlash PLE, also held in San Juan, was highlighted by Bad Bunny competing in a San Juan Street Fight, where he defeated Damian Priest in front of a raucous hometown crowd. Later in the main event, Cody Rhodes defeated Brock Lesnar in a bloody first-time-ever encounter.
Bad Bunny remains connected to WWE and has publicly expressed interest in wrestling again. A lifelong fan, he was recently spotted attending a CMLL event in disguise, fueling speculation about future in-ring appearances.
• WWE Interested In Signing Comedy AEW Wrestler
The next chapter of Danhausen’s career may be approaching faster than expected, and it’s already drawing attention beyond All Elite Wrestling. With his current deal nearing its conclusion, discussions around what comes next have quietly picked up momentum.
Recent reporting from Fightful Select has indicated that Danhausen’s AEW contract is set to expire around February 2026.
On WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, it was revealed that sources within WWE expect to show interest once Danhausen becomes available. According to those sources, there’s a belief that his unique character and presentation could translate especially well in NXT, where creative experimentation is more common.
Despite his absence from AEW television throughout 2025, Danhausen has remained active, continuing to wrestle regularly on the independent circuit.
• Latest Update On The WrestleMania 42 Main Event
WWE’s long-term vision for WrestleMania 42 appears to be undergoing a significant reset as Seth Rollins’ recovery timeline stretches further than originally hoped, forcing creative plans to pivot well ahead of the event.
According to the Wrestling Observer, Rollins now expects to remain out of action for another four months, a window that puts his availability for WrestleMania 42 in serious doubt. With the event just over three months away, the updated estimate has effectively closed the door on what had once been considered a possible return scenario.
Dave Meltzer reported that while WWE had initially kept Rollins’ involvement flexible, the wrestler’s own assessment of his recovery has changed the outlook. Even when the idea of Rollins appearing at the show was discussed previously, it was far from a sure thing.
That uncertainty has now solidified into a more definitive shift in direction. Rollins had been penciled in for a World Heavyweight Championship match against Roman Reigns, a bout expected to headline one of the two nights of WrestleMania 42. With Rollins sidelined, Meltzer notes that the plan has been scrapped, at least in its original form.
As a result, WWE’s focus has reportedly swung back toward a matchup that has defined the company’s recent WrestleMania landscape. Meltzer indicated that the trilogy between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Championship is once again being positioned as the centerpiece bout of the weekend.
Reigns vs. Rhodes III was teased at the end of Survivor Series: WarGames 2025.
The American Nightmare is currently scheduled to defend the WWE Title against Drew McIntyre in a “3 Stages of Hell” match on the January 9th episode of SmackDown in Berlin, Germany.
If WWE decides go ahead of the Reigns vs. Rhodes title rematch plan at WrestleMania 42, then it’s safe to say that Cody will once again defeat The Scottish Psychopath to retain the championship.
