Meltzer went on to explain that what followed fit a long-established strategy – one that allowed McMahon to remove himself from public scrutiny while remaining part of a broader corporate plan.
That plan ultimately aligned with WWE’s sale to Endeavor, a process that has since come under legal scrutiny. Meltzer noted that even outside parties characterized the sale as effectively decided in advance, rather than a competitive bidding situation.
The second resignation in early 2024, Meltzer argued, wasn’t driven by accountability or personal reflection. Instead, it came after the Janel Grant lawsuit created significant backlash, including sponsor concerns and pressure from Endeavor leadership.
According to Meltzer, that moment forced McMahon out by necessity. However, Meltzer emphasized that this doesn’t mean the story is finished. In his view, the current silence mirrors the same approach McMahon used before: disappear during legal turmoil, then reassess once the situation cools down.
Meltzer suggested that if the lawsuit eventually resolves, the option for McMahon to re-emerge – formally or informally – could still exist, following the same roadmap used in the past.
