• Bron Breakker Cleared To Wrestle, Why He’ll Still Miss WrestleMania 42
Bron Breakker has been sidelined for over a month following a hernia injury that required surgery. He recently visited the WWE Performance Center as part of the process to get medically cleared for an in-ring return.
The former Intercontinental Champion was rumored to return on RAW this week and was reportedly backstage for the show, but he did not make an appearance. WWE announced GUNTHER vs. Seth Rollins for WrestleMania 42 on RAW instead.
As previously noted, plans for WrestleMania changed due to injuries to Breakker and Rey Mysterio. Breakker was originally expected to face Seth Rollins, while Mysterio’s scheduled match against GUNTHER was scrapped.
According to the Wrestling Observer, the decision to have GUNTHER face Rollins was not related to Breakker’s health. Breakker is fully cleared to compete, but WWE chose not to rush him into a high-profile match, preferring to give the storyline proper build time. The storyline with Rollins and Paul Heyman in recent weeks was always intended to culminate in The Career Killer choking out The Visionary at Madison Square Garden.
GUNTHER was announced as Rollins’ opponent because of the injuries to Breakker, Mysterio and Bronson Reed. Additionally, a planned celebrity match involving The Usos, LA Knight, The Vision, and IShowSpeed altered the card, taking Logan Paul out of a potential encounter against Rollins.
WWE still intends to do Rollins vs. Breakker in the future.
• WWE Cancels WrestleMania 42 Match For 2 Former Champions
After Chad Gable aka Original El Grande Americano suffered an injury, Ludwig Kaiser took over the character and elevated it, becoming AAA’s most popular babyface. Gable returned at the Royal Rumble in January and eliminated Kaiser from the Men’s Royal Rumble match.
There had been talk of a WrestleMania showdown between the two El Grande Americanos, potentially in a Mask vs. Mask match.
However, Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer reports that WWE will not go forward with the match at WrestleMania 42. The match is now set to happen in AAA instead, and WWE is holding off on a match between the former Speed Champions for the time being.
So far, the company has announced 12 matches for the Grandest Stage of Them All.
• WrestleMania 42 Match For IShowSpeed Revealed
WWE announced four new matches for WrestleMania 42 on the latest episode of RAW, bringing the total number of announced bouts to 12.
According to the Wrestling Observer, a 6-Man Tag Team match featuring Logan Paul, Austin Theory and IShowSpeed against The Usos and LA Knight is currently scheduled for the Show of Shows. If IShowSpeed isn’t ready, WWE could adjust the bout to a Tag Team match with Speed and Knight in the corners, but the three-on-three contest is what’s currently planned.
As noted before, WWE had been considering IShowSpeed for WrestleMania for some time.
On last night’s RAW, Speed accidentally struck Knight with brass knuckles, which played a key role in The Usos losing the World Tag Team Championship to The Vision.
