Former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio is facing a legal nightmare following his arrest in San Luis Potosí, and the details coming out are much darker than initially reported.
While the story began with a domestic violence arrest, Mexican reporter Gabriel Cuevas of Radio Fórmula MX is now claiming the situation was actually an attempted murder. According to reports from Cuevas, Del Rio allegedly tried to kill his wife, Marie Carmen, on April 7, 2026.
Del Rio reportedly became obsessed with the idea that his wife was cheating on him with her training partner, cyclist Dan Noyola. He allegedly threw her training bike at her and later destroyed it so she couldn’t leave the house.
Sources claim the violence reached a breaking point where Del Rio allegedly broke his wife’s nose.
Neighbors told reporters they had been calling 911 for months due to the sound of screaming and fighting, but claimed the police never took action until now.
It’s alleged that Marie Carmen had reached out for help as far back as March 2025, but she often denied the abuse publicly because she was afraid of her husband.
Del Rio is currently being held in jail while prosecutors in Mexico decide how to charge him. A standard charge could lead to 1 to 7 years in prison. Prosecutors are considering a much heavier charge (Lesiones Cometidas contra la Mujer en Razon de su Genero), which carries a sentence of 8 to 20 years.
If the claims of intent to kill are proven in court, the 2011 Royal Rumble winner could face even more time behind bars.
Del Rio married Marie Carmen in 2024.
