After Laynie Luck’s departure, another WWE ID departure has been announced. Marcus Mathers (age 23) has confirmed that his time with the WWE Independent Development (ID) program has ended.

Mathers wrote that the chapter closed this week after two years. He expressed gratitude to WWE, saying he learned a great deal, gained valuable knowledge, and made lasting friendships and memories. He specifically thanked the company for its time, calling time “the most valuable thing any of us can give.”

Mathers noted that he immediately returned to training at The Dungeon and has a busy indie schedule lined up, including matches against Amazing Red and Nick Gage. He added that he is now “in the driver’s seat” and plans to “show up EVERYWHERE to fight ANYONE.”

Mathers was one of the original talents announced for the WWE ID program in October 2024. He appeared regularly on WWE EVOLVE and wrestled a dark match before NXT earlier this week.

TJ Wilson wrote the following about Mathers:

“If I owned a wrestling company, Marcus would be my first hire. I love watching his work but admire his passion most of all. One of my favorite young guys at the moment, excited to see the growth you’re about to experience.”

Natalya posted:

“This guy is a BEAST in The Dungeon. Marcus Mathers would go to practices at the Performance Center, then drive two hours to The Dungeon to train for four more hours with no A/C… and out-work everyone. Heart, hunger and drive. 🚀”

Marcus replied:

“One of the most important things I got out of the WWEID program has been my relationship with Nattie and TJ. I can’t thank you guys enough for everything.”

Natalya saw his response and wrote:

“Thank you Marcus Mathers – There’s always a place for you in The Dungeon because passion, talent, work ethic and heart is the ultimate currency to me. ‘WHATEVER IT TAKES.’”
