The surprise ending to WWE Clash In Paris has added fuel to speculation about a potential return for one of wrestling’s most talked-about names: AJ Lee.
According to Fightful Select, AJ’s name has circulated in creative discussions more frequently in recent months. While her stance for nearly a decade has been firm – no return to the ring – this time insiders say the ideas aren’t being dismissed as quickly as they once were.
The timing of this renewed interest comes just as Becky Lynch played a pivotal role in Paris, interfering in the main event to support her husband, Seth Rollins. Becky low-blowed AJ’s husband, CM Punk. Rollins then hit Punk with a Stomp on a steel chair for the win.
Almost immediately, people within WWE pointed to that finish as a possible setup for bigger storylines down the road, with AJ Lee’s involvement being one of the scenarios pitched.
Lee has been away from in-ring competition since 2015. When she was brought in by WOW: Women of Wrestling, she made clear that she had no interest in competing, preferring to contribute in other ways. AEW talent have also playfully teased Punk about convincing her to wrestle again, a sentiment echoed by WWE women who would welcome her back.
Interestingly, Punk himself has dropped subtle nods – even doing AJ’s signature “skip” around the ring during a European live event recently.
Sources close to WWE leadership told Fightful they wouldn’t be worried about AJ’s long absence if she chose to wrestle again. They pointed out she still looks television-ready and has a natural connection to the roster through Punk, who proved it’s possible to return after years away.
Colleagues who worked with her on the Starz series Heels also noted that she initially seemed nervous to step back in the ring for filming, but quickly settled in as if she’d never left.
There’s no confirmation that AJ Lee is preparing a comeback, but compared to past years, insiders say the conversation has more traction than ever. Whether the Clash In Paris main event finish was simply a storyline twist or the first breadcrumb toward her return remains to be seen, but the door no longer feels as firmly shut as it once did.
