Below are some top news stories of the day, involving Edge and Chuck Taylor.

• There were rumors that Attitude Era Veteran Gangrel was going to return to WWE at WrestleMania 39 and have a brawl with Judgment Day, as “Brood” Edge was set to take on “Demon” Finn Balor in a Hell in a Cell match.

However, neither did Edge use the Brood entrance at WrestleMania 39 nor did Gangrel show up.

During an interview with Chris Van Vliet on the Insight podcast, Edge revealed what WWE told him when he pitched the idea of bringing Gangrel back:

“I tried and I just got shut down. Every person shut it down.

So this isn’t a knock on WWE, but I’d always get the, ‘well, nobody remembers (him)’. People remember, wrestling fans remember and I think wrestling fans want to be rewarded for remembering. And that’s a way to reward them. That’s what I’ve always felt.

I think you know, you fast forward to me and Matt Cardona doing a Cope Open. And his music hits and he comes out. I mean, they remembered. And so I’ve always been a fan of pulling in things from the past and kind of integrating them into current things. But yeah, that was one I just kept getting shut down.

I realised, okay, that was not a hill to die on because it didn’t get to happen. It’s not my sandbox, I got to do with what I’ve been given.”

• In a dramatic turn of events on the April 27, 2024 episode of AEW Rampage, former best friends Trent Beretta and Chuck Taylor engaged in a violent and unforgettable parking lot brawl. The intense confrontation between the two longtime allies culminated in Beretta emerging victorious over Taylor, effectively shattering their once unbreakable bond. However, the repercussions of this clash extend far beyond the confines of their friendship, as it appears Taylor’s wrestling career hangs in the balance.

Following the brutal encounter on Rampage, concerns arose regarding Taylor’s well-being after sustaining significant punishment during the bout. These fears were tragically confirmed on the subsequent episode of AEW Dynamite, where Orange Cassidy delivered a sobering announcement: Chuck Taylor “will never wrestle again”. Cassidy’s revelation sent shockwaves throughout the wrestling world, as fans grappled with the grim reality of Taylor’s potential career-ending injury.

Speculation initially swirled among fans, with many hoping that Taylor’s prognosis was merely a part of a storyline concocted by AEW’s creative team. However, the gravity of the situation became apparent when the Wrestling Observer confirmed that Taylor’s injury is, indeed, legitimate:

“Chuck Taylor’s storyline injury is legitimate with the belief right now being that Taylor won’t be able to wrestle again with the nature of the injury being ‘likely career ending’.”
