We are saddened to report that former German WWF / WWE / AEW commentator Gunter Zapf has passed away at the age of 66.

Zapf used to play American Football in his home country of Germany in Europe, before he became one half of the famous WWF German commentary duo in 1993, consisting of himself and Carsten Schaefer.

Together they provided commentary for the official WWF VHS tapes, as well as the weekly WWF TV shows on RTL2, DSF, TM3, Premiere, Tele5 and Sky.

In 2013, he left WWE and focused on other projects.

Gunter Zapf also provided commentary for the German broadcast of the NFL (National Football League) and MLB (Major League Baseball).

A few years ago, he returned to professional wrestling and became one half of the German commentary duo for Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling, alongside former WCW commentator Mike Ritter.

We extend our condolences to his family, friends and fans.

Rest in peace Gunter Zapf
