• “In AEW, you get more actual in-ring wrestling” – Former WWE Champion On WWE vs. AEW
WWE and AEW have been rivals since 2019. WWE emphasizes sports entertainment, offering more than just wrestling, while AEW puts a stronger focus on the in-ring action.
Bryan Danielson, who has worked for both companies, recently spoke to Down Under The Ring podcast, where he gave his take on the difference between WWE and AEW’s presentations.
Here’s what the former WWE & AEW World Champion said:
“I would say WWE tends to be informed more by drama and outside of the ring action. In AEW, you get more actual in-ring wrestling. The wrestling that you see is more action-packed, it’s more hard-hitting, it’s more high-flying. I would say it’s a more exciting style of wrestling, although I’m not going to take anything away from the guys in WWE. Some of the guys do that sort of thing. But that’s not what they’re going for, right?
One of the things I like about AEW, and that I loved working there, is that the characters you see on TV are closer to people in real life. It’s not quite as cartoony. [AEW wrestlers] have a little bit more nuance when they do things, and you have to say, there’s always going to be exceptions in both companies whenever you say these types of things, and people will say, ‘Oh, Bryan’s bashing WWE.’
I’m not saying that at all. There are different ways of doing things, right? But I think it’s more genuine, and I think the people within AEW, because of how Tony runs it, are closer to the characters that they want to be, the characters that they desire to be.”
• Top WWE Legend Getting Both Knees Replaced
Shawn Michaels has put his body through just about everything during his time in pro wrestling. He had some of the greatest matches in the sport’s history, but they took a serious toll on him physically over a career that lasted more than two decades.
The 2-time WWE Hall Of Famer has had multiple surgeries in the past, and now he is preparing to get both of his knees replaced next month.
Below is what he revealed in an interview with Nightcap:
“Hell yes. I’ve had my back fused. I’ve had my shoulder replaced. I got two knees that I’m getting replaced in, probably in a month; I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world; I knew that going in; I knew the price that was going to come along with it. When I worked on the road, we did 286 days. When I got a part-time schedule, it was 150 days. I enjoyed every minute.”
The Heartbreak Kid was also asked about a potential return to the ring. He said there’s no chance of it happening.
“Not a chance. I’m so blessed and so unfortunate to have done what I’ve done. I’m so overjoyed to be doing what I do now and helping the future of WWE. Being part of that, NXT is thriving on Tuesday nights on CW Network. To help these young men and women to achieve their passions and dreams is something that I had no idea I’d enjoy this much, but it is so great. I think the business is in tremendous hands for the future.”
Shawn Michaels last wrestled at WWE Crown Jewel in 2018, where he teamed up with Triple H to take on The Brothers Of Destruction.
• “You wouldn’t have had a f**k finish you have every f**king week” – 2x HOFer Thinks LA Knight Should’ve Won At Clash In Paris
WWE Clash In Paris featured Seth Rollins putting his World Heavyweight Championship on the line against LA Knight, Jey Uso and CM Punk in the main event in a Fatal 4-Way Match. The bout ended with Becky Lynch attacking Punk to help her husband Rollins retain the title.
Speaking on his Kliq This podcast, 2-time WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash gave his views on the result of the match. He questioned why Triple H didn’t go in a different direction and book LA Knight to win the match.
“Would it have hurt the programming if LA Knight would have went over? And you wouldn’t have had a f**k finish that you have every f**king week.”
The former WWF Champion added that it was a great opportunity for Triple H to “break the monotony”, but The Game missed it.
