• On This Day In Pro Wrestling History (January 22, 1983) – MSG House Show

On this day in Pro Wrestling history on January 22, 1983, the World Wrestling Federation held a televised house show at the Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York.

This event was televised on both, the MSG Network & the USA Network and featured Vince McMahon & Gorilla Monsoon on commentary.

• Old School Wrestling Legend Celebrates His Birthday

Old School NWA/WWF Legend Tully Blanchard celebrates his birthday today.

Whenever you think of Tully Blanchard, you think of The 4 Horsemen, the legendary faction he was a member of from their foundation in late 1985 till he left for the World Wrestling Federation in September 1988.

In the WWF Blanchard teamed up with his fellow 4 Horsemen buddy Arn Anderson as The Brain Busters, managed by Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan, and together they won the WWF Tag Team Championship in 1989, after they had already won the NWA World Tag Team Championship twice (1987 & 1988).

In 2012 he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame together with other Horsemen members “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Barry Windham & J.J. Dillon.

‘The American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes inducted them.

• Old School Wrestling Veteran Celebrates His Birthday

Old School ECW Veteran 911 (Real name: Alfred Poling) celebrates his birthday today.

He appeared in Paul Heyman’s Extreme Championship promotion from 1994 till 1996, most notably chokeslamming & squashing other ECW wrestlers.

In late 1996 and 1997 he wrestled for Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling as ‘Tombstone’ and ‘Big Al’.

Like a lot of other former ECW Wrestlers, 911 returned during the 2005 Reunion Show ‘Hardcore Homecoming’.

• On This Day In Pro Wrestling History (January 22, 1995) – AWA Veteran Passed Away

On this day in 1995 we lost legendary AWA Veteran “Crusher” Jerry Blackwell at the age of 45 due to complications from several injuries, after a car accident a few weeks earlier.

Not many people remember this, but HulkaMania was actually born during Hulk Hogan’s AWA feud with Jerry Blackwell, when the Hulkster turned babyface in the process.

Blackwell ended up wrestling for Verne Gagne’s American Wrestling Association from 1979 till 1989.

Though he never won the AWA World Heavyweight Championship, he did win the AWA World Tag Team Championship with Ken Patera in 1983.
