As the world mourns the loss of Hulk Hogan, new details are emerging that paint a far more serious picture of his final months than most fans ever realized. While the 2-time WWE Hall of Famer remained largely out of the spotlight, behind the scenes he was fighting a series of devastating health issues that ultimately led to his passing at age 71. According to the Wrestling Observer, Hogan’s decline began in earnest after undergoing neck surgery in May. What followed was a cascade of medical complications: he was intubated, suffered from renal failure, fluid overload, and was battling severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The reality of his condition was far more grave than what had been publicly acknowledged at the time.
Initially hospitalized at Tampa General, Hogan was eventually moved home after doctors concluded that nothing more could be done. His house in Clearwater, Florida, was transformed into a makeshift hospital so he could spend his final days surrounded by loved ones rather than in a medical facility.
In the last week of his life, Hogan’s health deteriorated rapidly. He lost the ability to speak (as reported by Bubba The Love Sponge), and while close sources downplayed some of the rumors circulating at the time, they confirmed that the situation was far worse than anyone outside his inner circle knew. Just weeks earlier, his wife Sky had publicly denied rumors that Hogan was in a coma, insisting his heart was “strong.” Privately, however, the family was coming to terms with how critical things had become.
On the morning of July 24, emergency responders rushed to the Hogan residence after a call reporting cardiac arrest. Paramedics arrived alongside police, and the nWo leader was transported to the hospital on a stretcher. He was later pronounced dead. No foul play was involved, and his passing was quiet – a far cry from the roaring arenas where he once reigned as one of wrestling’s most iconic figures.
In the end, those close to him say Hogan understood what was coming and spent his final weeks trying to make peace with friends and family, resolving old wounds and focusing on the people he loved most. Away from the cameras and the crowds, Hulk Hogan faced his last fight with quiet strength and surrounded by those who mattered most – leaving behind not just a legacy in wrestling, but a personal story of grace in the face of a final, private battle.
Bully Ray Slams Ex-Gawker Writer for “F**k That Guy” Comment on Hulk Hogan’s Death
Ex-Gawker writer Yvette d’Entremont wrote the following after Hulk Hogan’s death: “So Hulk Hogan died. As a former Gawker writer (as are all Gawker writers thanks to Hulk Hogan), I won’t be the first or the last to say ‘f**k that guy.’ Dance on any grave you want to, but this one’s mine.”
Yvette’s comments referenced Hogan’s highly publicized legal battle with Gawker Media, which stemmed from the site’s decision to publish a portion of Hogan’s leaked $ex tape. Hogan sued the company for invasion of privacy, and in 2016, he was awarded $140 million in damages. The judgment ultimately led to Gawker Media filing for bankruptcy and shutting down its flagship site. The lawsuit was notably funded by tech billionaire Peter Thiel, who had his own long-running feud with Gawker.
This led to Bully Ray aka Bubba Ray Dudley replying:
“Hi Yvette
F**k you too.
Brush ya hair.
xo
Bully”
