WWE acknowledged Snuka’s death on their website and posted the following:
WWE is saddened to learn that WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka has passed away.
Snuka is regarded by many as the pioneer of high-flying offense because of his Superfly Splash from the top turnbuckle. His dive off the top of the steel cage onto Don Muraco at Madison Square Garden as hundreds of flash bulbs went off will forever live as one of the most memorable moments in WWE history.
WWE extends its condolences to Snuka’s family, friends and fans.
Speaking of Snuka, third degree murder and involuntary manslaughter charges were recently dropped against him (regarding the death case of his girlfriend Nancy Argentino in 1983). Below is what WFMZ-TV posted regarding this:
The homicide charges against former wrestling legend Jimmy Snuka have been dismissed.
Judge Kelly Banach dismissed the charges Tuesday during an unscheduled hearing, Snuka’s attorney and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office confirmed.
Last summer, Snuka was found incompetent to stand trial for the 1983 death of his then-girlfriend, Nancy Argentino, at a motel in Whitehall Township.
Snuka faced third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter charges in the case.
Snuka’s defense team argued that the former wrestling star has dementia and does not recognize his own wife.
In August 2016, both the defense and prosecution asked Banach to drop the case if she believed Snuka would not get better. At that time, she said she needed more time to see if his condition improved.
She later said it was not improving and dismissed the charges.
Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said his office is considering its options.
