Seth Rollins has revealed details of the knee injury he suffered, admitting it could keep him sidelined for quite some time. Appearing on The Rich Eisen Show, Rollins confirmed he injured his knee during a bout with LA Knight at WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event special on NBC and Peacock. “I was doing a move that I do all the time – a moonsault, a backflip,” Rollins explained. “In this particular instance, I was landing not on my belly, but on my feet. When I landed, I felt my knee kind of pop and buckle.”
Despite finishing the match, Rollins knew something was wrong. He flew to Birmingham, Alabama, to see WWE’s medical specialists, but swelling prevented doctors from getting a clear diagnosis via imaging. “We’re going to take another look hopefully in a week or two here in LA to try to get some sort of firm diagnosis, and then we can go from there,” he said.
Rollins acknowledged that while he’s not a doctor, he knows his body well enough to sense that this could be a significant layoff. “I feel like this is going to be me out for an extended period of time… It’s a bummer, but look, it is what it is. Our business moves on. This isn’t the first time that I’ve been injured – it won’t be the last.”
Rollins compared the injury to his serious knee injury in 2015, which forced him to vacate the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. However, he noted that he’s in a much better mental place today and is focusing on the positives, like spending more time with his daughter. “I’m trying to find the silver linings… Everything’s going to be fine. We’re good.”
Rollins also said that while WrestleMania is in the back of his mind, his return timeline will depend entirely on his upcoming MRI results.
According to the Wrestling Observer, the original plan for Rollins was to successfully cash-in his Money In The Bank contract during the Gunther vs. CM Punk match at SummerSlam 2025 and walk out as the new World Heavyweight Champion:
“We do know now from multiple people that the plan was to do an injury angle on this show and have Rollins leave and then he would shockingly return at SummerSlam in the Gunther vs. CM Punk match and cash the briefcase in and win the title with the idea that he and Paul Heyman outsmarted everyone.
The problem is that by working so many people in the company, the scenario that I would have expected they’d have been able to keep under wraps ended up getting out, since people soon figured out they had been worked and started to investigate.”
