Below are a couple of top AEW & WWE news stories of the day.
• Reports indicate WWE is interested in Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix when their AEW contracts end. The Wrestling Observer mentioned that All Elite Wrestling internally believes the Lucha Bros will join WWE once they’re free from their deals.
WrestlePurists initially reported that the two were likely to leave, which led AEW to change their original plans for the Trios Championship match set for All In later this month. Bodyslam had earlier reported that Penta’s contract would expire this year, and Fightful noted last month that Fenix’s contract was also ending this year.
According to Fightful Select, Penta’s deal will expire first, with Fenix’s contract up around September. AEW wants to re-sign them, but the process has been delayed. Recently, it became clear that AEW wouldn’t secure a new deal as the tag team wasn’t interested in re-signing. This was hinted at when Konnan tweeted, “What goes around comes around 2.”
Sources spoken to by Fightful believe the Lucha Bros want to move together and are not interested in going to NXT, as they want to go straight to the main roster. A source close to them mentioned it wouldn’t be surprising to see preparations for their move to WWE happening soon.
Additionally, several sources close to the tag team have stated that the Lucha Bros have already had talks with WWE and there is a preliminary offer similar to AEW’s on the table.
WWE representatives did not comment on the situation, as both wrestlers are still under contract with AEW.

• 2025 will be the last year of John Cena as an in-ring performer in WWE.
During an interview with Extra TV, Cena said the following about his retirement tour:
“It’s going to be fun. Not bittersweet for me, it’s going to be fun. I’m so grateful that I’m in a position where I still have my health and I’m able to carve out a large section of time and perform for a year, from January to December, and give everyone a heads up.
A lot of times in WWE, sometimes injuries force retirement all of a sudden. One day you’re there, the next day you’re gone, or sometimes you say you’re going to retire and it’s part of the bit. You attack somebody and get a shot at the championship.
This is my way, for an audience that has made me who I am, after 23 years of investment, to say, ‘Hey, I’m going to give you 6 months, that’s your warning. In January, we’re going on tour and in December, I’m hanging them up. Let’s all get together at various spots around the world the next calendar year and get loud and rowdy one more time.’”
