Below are a couple of top WWE & AEW news stories of the day, featuring Saturday Night’s Main Event and Chris Jericho.

• WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event is set to return live on NBC, with a simultaneous stream on Peacock, on December 14 at 8 p.m. ET from Long Island’s Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Originally aired from 1985 to 1991 on NBC and briefly on FOX in 1992, the show made a comeback on NBCU’s RAW on USA Network in March 2006, running until August 2008.

According to the Wrestling Observer, the matches tentatively planned for the event include WWE Champion Cody Rhodes vs. Kevin Owens, and World Heavyweight Champion Gunther vs. Damian Priest.

Rhodes defeated Owens to retain the Undisputed Title at Bash In Berlin. Owens turned heel and attacked Rhodes backstage at Bad Blood.

Priest lost the World Title to Gunther at SummerSlam, after Finn Balor turned on his Judgment Day brother. Backstage on this week’s RAW, Priest told Gunther that it’s time for him to go after the World Heavyweight Title again. However, he isn’t looking for a handout – he’ll earn a title match.

• On this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Chris Jericho defeated Mark Briscoe in a Ladder War Match with help from Big Bill to win the ROH World Championship, thus becoming a 9-time World Champion.

The Wrestling Observer suggested that Jericho’s title win could be connected to AEW’s attempts to secure a television deal for ROH.

They hinted that making Jericho the champion might strengthen AEW’s position in negotiations for the deal.

“I think that if they are working on an ROH television deal, then it probably is beneficial for them (to have Chris Jericho) as champion, to try and close that deal.”
