• During an interview with ESPN, Cody Rhodes was asked if The Rock is in his way to the main event of WrestleMania 40, where he wants to challenge for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, currently held by Roman Reigns.
Cody said he doesn’t think The Great One is in his way and that he has two ways to earn the WWE Title opportunity at WrestleMania 40 – win the Men’s Royal Rumble match or win the Elimination Chamber match, thus confirming that a #1 Contender match for the WWE Championship will take place at the Elimination Chamber premium live event in Australia on February 24.
Here’s what The American Nightmare said:
“I don’t consider him in my way. Maybe he is, and I’m being naive to it. Maybe he wants to get in, I don’t know. But I don’t consider him in my way.
Again, The Rock is one of the main reasons we’re here today. Nothing but respect. But also at the same time, I have to have the respect for myself to know where I’d like to go.
For me to be able to get back [to challenging for the WWE Championship in the main event of WrestleMania], I’ve gotta win in one of those two settings — the Royal Rumble or the Elimination Chamber. And that’s really where my focus is at.
I can’t see WrestleMania 40 until I see one of those.”
