Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day.

• WWE Superstars AJ Styles and IYO SKY competed in separate matches in Japan this morning.

AJ Styles faced Naomichi Marufuji in a co-main event of NOAH Destination at Budokan Hall. Styles won with a Styles Clash after Marufuji narrowly escaped an earlier attempt. This match was set up last month when Styles announced his appearance at a NOAH event in Yokohama. Styles has a history in Japan, having worked for New Japan Pro Wrestling before joining WWE in 2016.

Styles also met Keiji Muto aka The Great Muta backstage:

IYO SKY also competed in a co-main event at the Marigold Summer Destiny event at Sumo Hall. She defeated Utami Hayashishita with a Tombstone Piledriver followed by a Moonsault.

After the match, SKY expressed gratitude to Hayashishita, WWE, and Marigold. She entered with her WWE music and wore a mask similar to the one she used in STARDOM before joining WWE.

• Stephanie Vaquer, former NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion, has opted to sign with WWE, bypassing an AEW contract and canceling her remaining independent dates.

This decision led her to withdraw from upcoming CMLL shows, including NJPW x CMLL Fantastica Mania. Many speculated her exit was to appear at WWE’s Live Events in Mexico City and Monterrey this weekend, which WWE confirmed via social media.

Vaquer reportedly caught WWE’s attention after her match against Mercedes Mone at AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door. She had also wrestled Lady Frost on AEW Collision and was offered a deal by All Elite Wrestling, but chose WWE instead.

This decision has allegedly upset NJPW, CMLL, and AEW. CMLL, in particular, is disappointed as they intended for Vaquer to drop the CMLL Women’s World and Women’s Tag Team titles before her departure, which were vacated instead.
