• NXT Wrestler Was Reportedly Set To Debut In The Main Event Of SmackDown Last Week

The first SmackDown of 2021 featured the continuation of the feud between Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens.

At the end of the show, The Tribal Chief teamed up with his cousin, Jey Uso, to destroy Kevin Owens once again, as Owens was brutalizing Uso after defeating him in a match.

WrestleVotes is reporting that a wrestler from NXT was supposed to debut on SmackDown last week, and he was slated be a part of this Reigns/Owens storyline.

“Just heard an interesting story… NXT talent was slated to be called up to SmackDown last week, as of showtime, was written into the main event segment w/ Reigns, Uso & KO. Said talent is on tonight’s big NXT card so curious to see if it was pushed a week or scrapped altogether.”

The debuting wrestler was likely set to be a babyface alongside Kevin Owens to feud with Reigns and Uso.

It should be noted that the Fight Pit II match between Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher is no longer being advertised for tonight’s NXT New Year’s Evil, so this could have something to do with SmackDown.

Below is the full lineup for the show:

– NXT Championship Match: Finn Balor (c) vs. Kyle O’Reilly

– NXT Cruiserweight Championship Match: Santos Escobar (c) vs. Gran Metalik

– Last Woman Standing Match: Rhea Ripley vs. Raquel Gonzalez

– Karrion Kross (w/Scarlett) vs. Damian Priest (Opening match)

– Xia Li and Boa return from their transformation
