Adam Sandler has officially declared former AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman – better known as MJF – as his “fake son forever,” while speaking about the wrestler’s role in his ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ movie. Appearing on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Sandler gushed about his experience working with the wrestling star, revealing not only his admiration for MJF’s talent but also his genuine concern for his well-being during filming.
Sandler, a lifelong wrestling fan, shared his excitement about including real-life pro wrestlers in the sequel to one of his most iconic films. When asked about working with MJF, Sandler had nothing but praise. “Funny as hell. What a great kid. Love him. Family member,” he said. “I hung out with that kid and all the boys.”
But Sandler also admitted he had concerns when MJF decided to wrestle during filming. “A little concerned when halfway through he was going to fight,” Sandler said. “He went and had a match and he had to come back the next day. Like, I don’t know if this is your best idea.”
According to Sandler, MJF performed in the middle of production. “He goes, ‘I’m going to win,’” Sandler recalled with a laugh. “But the things he has to do – what if you get – he came bruised. There were some bruises you can cover. He had some extra bruises, but what if he lost a tooth?”
Sandler, ever the perfectionist, was worried about continuity and damage to MJF’s on-screen appearance. “Well, you fix it in post. Calm down. What are you doing?” he joked, before adding more seriously, “I was worried. I was like, I don’t think you should do it.”
Despite those nerves, Sandler clearly holds MJF in high regard. “You truly love Max,” Van Vliet noted, to which Sandler responded enthusiastically: “That kid is jacked and he’s a stud. I’m happy to say he’s my fake son forever. I’m proud of my fake son. I love my fake son.”
