Quinton “Rampage” Jackson says the fallout from his son Raja’s violent altercation with independent wrestler Syko Stu has taken a dark turn – one that now involves threats to his own life.
Speaking briefly to Joy of Everything cameras while passing through LAX on Monday, the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion said his social media inbox has been flooded since the weekend.
“There’s a lot of racist people giving me death threats and stuff like that,” Jackson explained. He added that online trolls have gone after him personally, with insults about his parenting and accusations of being a “bad father.” Jackson cut the conversation short, saying he avoided going into detail because “anything I say gets twisted.”
The incident that sparked the backlash took place Saturday in Los Angeles before a KnokX Pro Wrestling event. Raja Jackson was struck with an empty beer can by Stu – real name Stuart Smith – in what appeared to be a staged confrontation. Later that night, Raja entered the ring for what was supposed to be his “receipt.”
Instead, things spiraled. Raja knocked Stu unconscious and delivered a flurry of punches while the wrestler was down, leaving the crowd stunned and officials scrambling to intervene.
Smith was rushed to the hospital with what his brother described as “severe injuries to his head.” Thankfully, by Monday evening he was conscious and able to speak. A GoFundMe campaign for his medical expenses quickly gained traction, surpassing $140,000 in donations.
The wrestling community has been split over the blame. WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry suggested that Stu’s decision to hit Raja with the can helped ignite the confrontation. Others, like Rob Van Dam, have criticized Raja for going far beyond what was expected in the skit and that Raja should be in jail.
As of now, the Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed it is investigating the matter. No arrests have been made, but the incident continues to draw widespread attention – both for the violence inside the ring and the troubling wave of threats outside of it.
