During an interview on the “Mic Check with Mr. Anderson” podcast, Maven delivered one of his most candid insights yet about his relationship with Triple H, openly stating that “Hunter does not like me.” While he emphasized that they remain cordial when they cross paths, Maven said the disconnect runs deep and traces back to how he entered WWE.
According to Maven, Triple H was never a fan of Tough Enough wrestlers, nor of the idea that someone could arrive in WWE without grinding through the independent circuit for years. Maven said that despite proving himself in various ways, Hunter always viewed him through a single lens. In Maven’s words, “If there’s anybody who hated the way I came into the business, it’s him. And I will forever, in his eyes, be the Tough Enough guy.”
Maven explained that the way he entered the business – winning a reality competition instead of climbing the traditional ladder – created a disconnect with many veterans, but none more than Triple H. He described Hunter as someone who valued the traditional path and felt that Maven, fairly or unfairly, represented a shortcut that undermined the business’ unwritten rules.
Maven also said he has heard repeatedly from others in the industry that Triple H has mellowed over the years. Many told him the current WWE Chief Creative Officer is more open-minded, cooperative, and less guarded than he once was. But Maven made it clear that even if Triple H is “different now,” it doesn’t change the likelihood of Maven ever getting a call from WWE again. As he put it: “I’m never gonna say no to anything. But I just don’t think the call’s coming while he’s still there. That’s it.”
Despite that, Maven expressed no bitterness. Instead, he spoke calmly and matter-of-factly about the situation, acknowledging that not every relationship is meant to align. He even complimented Triple H’s wrestling knowledge and leadership, saying, “You’ll never find anybody that knows the wrestling business better than him.”
Maven also joked about the irony that he’s now succeeded in a completely different way that likely wouldn’t have impressed Triple H either. “You bring something to the table, you get a seat, right?” he said. “I never proved that to him.” But today, thanks to YouTube success and a thriving media career, Maven has built a different kind of legacy.
Even though many believe Triple H has grown or evolved since Maven’s WWE run, Maven doesn’t expect that shift to apply to him personally. “I hope the stories you’re hearing are true,” he said. “But for me? I just don’t expect that call.”
