• Top AEW Star Calls Roman Reigns’ Bloodline Saga One Of The Greatest Long-Term Stories Ever
MJF didn’t shy away from giving credit to WWE’s biggest storyline of the PG era (2008 onwards), openly calling Roman Reigns’ Bloodline saga one of the greatest long-term angles professional wrestling has ever produced during his interview with Fightful.
While discussing how hot AEW’s “Better Than You Bay Bay” storyline was at its peak in 2023, MJF framed its success by comparing it to what was happening at the top of WWE.
He claimed that, at the time, AEW briefly had the industry’s most dominant angle, even as The Bloodline continued its historic run. “At that point, there was a bit of a lull in their story at that point in 2023,” MJF said, before making sure to clarify the larger picture. “Bloodline’s going to go down as one of the greatest long-term things, right?”
MJF emphasized that the comparison wasn’t meant as a slight toward Roman Reigns or The Bloodline, but rather as context for how strong All Elite Wrestling’s momentum was during that specific window.
He claimed that his program with Adam Cole was outperforming everything else at the time. “At the time, and this is just a fact, we were the highest minute-for-minute drawing angle, not just in AEW, but in all of professional wrestling at that point,” he said. “We were moving the merch the most in the company at that point.”
Even while touting those numbers, MJF made it clear that he views The Bloodline’s legacy as something far bigger than short-term metrics. By calling it one of the greatest long-term stories ever, he placed Roman Reigns’ faction alongside the most iconic arcs in wrestling history, noting that its impact will be judged over years rather than individual weeks or months.
The praise stood out coming from MJF, who is rarely generous with compliments toward anything outside his own orbit. But in this case, he acknowledged that The Bloodline’s sustained success sets a standard few storylines can realistically match.
• WWE’s Disappointing Response To AEW & TNA Stars Looking To Join The Company Revealed
WWE currently has one of the deepest and most crowded rosters in professional wrestling, spread across RAW, SmackDown, NXT, and EVOLVE. On top of that, the company continues to expand its talent pipeline through multiple avenues, including developmental systems like LFG and NIL, while also signing select independent wrestlers through the WWE ID program.
According to the Wrestling Observer, WWE is effectively operating under a hiring freeze at this time. Wrestlers from both AEW and TNA have reportedly reached out to WWE expressing interest in joining the company, only to be told that WWE is not actively looking to sign new talent right now.
This situation has been particularly relevant for TNA talent. Certain wrestlers from the promotion have been contacting WWE due to uncertainty surrounding their future, including concerns over short-term contracts. It’s believed that several TNA deals are set to expire by the end of the year, prompting some performers to explore potential options elsewhere.
However, WWE’s current position is that they already have an abundance of talent within their system. Many wrestlers in developmental are viewed as ready, reducing the immediate need to bring in talent from outside promotions.
That said, the report notes that this stance is not completely rigid. Exceptionally established names or truly unique talents could still be considered by WWE.
A veteran of Chris Jericho’s stature, for example, would not necessarily fall under the same restrictions. One notable current case is TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater, who has already been working WWE shows through the company’s partnership with TNA and is widely viewed as one of the most promising young wrestlers in the business.
