Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day, featuring Sasha Banks and Demolition.
• Sasha Banks aka Mercedes Mone’s departure from WWE in 2022 may have been met with disappointment by fans, but according to former WWE employee Tommy Carlucci, not everyone within the company was sad to see her go.
Speaking on The Coach & Bro Show, Carlucci revealed that multiple WWE producers found Mone difficult to work with behind the scenes. “At WWE, she wasn’t easy to work with backstage. I know that from a lot of producers there. So, I think a lot of people were glad when she left the company,” he stated.
Mone made headlines when she and Naomi walked out while holding the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. Their sudden departure led to WWE stripping them of their titles and addressing the incident publicly on live television, making it one of the most controversial exits in recent wrestling history.
Now flourishing in AEW as the reigning TBS Women’s Champion, Mone recently declined to name any wrestlers she’d like to see in AEW, stating that “the other place would sign them.” Carlucci interpreted this as further evidence of what he sees as her inflated ego, echoing what he claims WWE producers had long dealt with behind the scenes.
• Ax (Bill Eadie) & Smash (Barry Darsow) of Demolition have mended their relationship with WWE, potentially paving the way for a long-awaited Hall of Fame induction.
The tension between Demolition and WWE stemmed from a 1997 lawsuit over name and gimmick rights, as well as their involvement in a 2016 concussion-related class-action lawsuit. However, Barry Darsow recently revealed that WWE invited them to last year’s WrestleMania and Hall of Fame ceremony, though they were unable to attend due to prior commitments.
With Triple H now leading creative, WWE has been more open to honoring Legends, regardless of past disputes. Eadie has since expressed optimism about their future with the company.
Their profile was recently reinstated on WWE’s Alumni section, and PWInsider reported that they have signed a WWE Legends Contract, which will allow them to be a part of WWE’s video games and have action figures.
According to Fightful Select, WWE officials are having discussing about inducting Demolition into the Hall of Fame:
“People wondered what that might mean for the Hall of Fame, and what I can tell you is that it has absolutely been discussed internally. Now, I don’t know if that means they’re going in this year or anything like that, but they have absolutely been brought up internally as potentially joining the WWE Hall of Fame, which is long overdue. One of the great teams of all time in WWE.”
The tag team later expanded with the addition of Crush (Brian Adams). As 3-time WWF Tag Team Champions, Demolition had a record-breaking title reign and still holds the record for most combined days as champions. They were also involved in classic rivalries with legendary tag teams like The Road Warriors, The Hart Foundation, and The British Bulldogs.
