• A New Era Is Beginning In WWE
An era ended in WWE after John Cena’s career came to an end when he tapped out to GUNTHER’s Sleeper Hold.
WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H, who faced significant backlash for the decision to have Cena submit, addressed the finish of Saturday Night’s Main Event and framed it as a turning point for the company following The GOAT’s retirement.
Here’s what he said on the post show:
“What you saw tonight, to me, was a dawning of a new era. So, this whole thing goes all circle. You see the end of the John Cena era and the beginning of a whole new wave of this business that will carry everything over into the future.”
Triple H also spoke highly about NXT Champion Oba Femi, making it clear that he sees him as a future pillar of WWE. He said that Oba has an immediate star presence, and he possesses genuine charisma and an X-factor that can’t be taught, and once he reaches the top level, he believes Oba will remain there for a very long time.
He pointed out that comparisons to Brock Lesnar are already being made due to how dominant Oba looks from the moment he arrived.
Triple H also singled out Sol Ruca, explaining that once in a while, someone enters the industry and immediately changes how things are viewed. He said that Sol is one of those talents, noting that her presence has already shifted expectations and raised the bar.
He then spoke about Je’Von Evans and Leon Slater, saying that wrestlers with their level of athleticism often rely solely on that ability and never develop the other tools needed to truly stand out. However, he made it clear that Evans and Slater are different. In his view, they don’t just bring elite athleticism, but also charisma, personality, and the full package, making them far more complete performers than most at that stage.
• GUNTHER Set To Retire Another Legend After John Cena
GUNTHER established himself as WWE’s top heel after retiring John Cena at Saturday Night’s Main Event. From the moment he arrived in the arena, The Ring General was met with heavy boos from the crowd.
The two-time World Heavyweight Champion became just the fourth wrestler in WWE history to make John Cena tap out, and the first to do so in 21 years.
With victories over Cena and Goldberg, GUNTHER is quickly being positioned as WWE’s new legend killer, following in the footsteps of Randy Orton. It appears he may be set to end another iconic career in the future.
According to WRKD Wrestling, GUNTHER is expected to retire Brock Lesnar after bringing an end to the careers of both John Cena and Goldberg this year.
As noted previously, WWE has discussed retirement plans for The Beast Incarnate. With SummerSlam 2026 scheduled to take place in Brock Lesnar’s hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota, that scenario is viewed as a strong possibility.
WWE will say goodbye to AJ Styles next year, and it appears that Brock Lesnar, and potentially a returning Chris Jericho could join him.
