Below are a couple of top AEW & WWE news stories of the day, featuring Mariah May, Mercedes Mone and Asuka.
• It looks like AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May has planted seeds for a future match against TBS Women’s Champion Mercedes Mone (fka Sasha Banks in WWE).
During an interview with Going Ringside, Mariah said the following about Mercedes:
“I’m here doing this, not her, for a reason because I’m a bigger star and I’m the World Champion. She can have all these Titles because she needs to because none of them are the World Title.”
Mariah is scheduled to defend her Women’s World Title against “Timeless” Toni Storm at AEW Grand Slam: Australia. Mercedes is expected to defend the TBS Title against Harley Cameron at this event.

• Former WWE Women’s Champion Asuka has been sidelined following knee surgery last year, though she continued wrestling for some time despite the injury. This included competing at Backlash France in April 2024, where she and Kairi Sane lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles to Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill.
After announcing her break, Asuka underwent surgery and began rehab, sharing her recovery journey through vlogs on her YouTube channel.
Fightful Select revealed that creative plans for Asuka’s return have been discussed, including a potential tag team match, but this idea was ultimately scrapped.
Currently, there’s no clear timeline for her return, and reports indicate she hasn’t been spotted training at the WWE Performance Center or confirmed for the upcoming Royal Rumble.
