• AEW Star Shows Support For Mick Foley Quitting WWE
Earlier this week, WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley publicly criticized US President Donald Trump for his remarks about the late Rob Reiner, calling out the use of someone’s tragic death to promote a political agenda.
Today, Foley announced that he is parting ways with WWE. Citing his concerns over the company’s close relationship with Trump and the President’s recent statements following Reiner’s death, Foley said he could no longer represent a promotion aligned with someone he views as lacking compassion and moral integrity.
He informed WWE talent relations that he will not be making any further appearances while Trump remains president and confirmed he will not renew his Legends contract when it expires in June. Foley expressed gratitude for his time in WWE, calling it an invaluable chapter of his career, but made it clear that his principles come first.
Former WWF manager and commentator Jim Cornette praised Foley for his stance, tweeting:
“I don’t think Mick Foley’s on Twitter or I’d tag him but I want to state publicly that while I’ve always liked him, he has just become my favorite person in the world. I wish all the boys had his backbone and, more importantly, his morals.”
AEW National Champion Ricochet also voiced his support for Foley, taking a pointed jab at Cornette, as the two have long clashed over wrestling style, with Cornette frequently criticizing Ricochet’s high-flying approach.
“I honestly NEVER thought I’d agree with this loser.”
Ricochet will participate in the Dynamite Diamond Ring Battle Royale tomorrow night on AEW Holiday Bash in Manchester.
• Title Change On NXT Was Botched (Video)
On this week’s episode of WWE NXT, Thea Hail challenged Blake Monroe for the Women’s North American Championship. The match ended with Hail hitting a Springboard Senton, after which the referee counted the pinfall to three and awarded her the title.
However, the finish immediately appeared controversial, as Monroe seemed to get her shoulder up before the three-count. The confusion was visible in the ring, with both competitors and the official looking uncertain about the outcome. The referee was later seen explaining to Monroe that she did not kick out in time, despite how it appeared on camera.
According to TC of WrestleVotes, there was backstage discussion about how to address the unforeseen title change. The report noted that changes to the remainder of the show were made as WWE officials worked to determine how to handle the situation moving forward.
