AEW vs. WWE NXT (Double Or Nothing 2023 vs. Battleground 2023) Live Coverage – Part 9

AEW Double Or Nothing 2023 (which is taking place at the T-Mobile Arena in the Las Vegas suburb of Paradise, Nevada) and WWE NXT Battleground 2023 (which is taking place at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts) are going head-to-head tonight.

This marks the first time since April 1989 that two major pro-wrestling promotions are airing their pay-per-views head-to-head, after WWF’s WrestleMania V and World Championship Wrestling’s Clash of the Champions VI.


– On the Double Or Nothing Buy-In show, The Hardys & FTW Champion Hook defeated Ethan Page & The Gunns. With this win, Matt Hardy now controls Ethan’s AEW contract.

– On The Buy-In show, Martha Hart appeared for the opening ceremony of the 2023 Owen Hart Cup Tournament.

– Wes Lee (c) def. Tyler Bate and Joe Gacy in a Triple Threat Match to retain the NXT North American Championship.

– Orange Cassidy eliminated Swerve Strickland in the end to win the 21-man Blackjack Battle Royal to retain the AEW International Championship. Big Bill (fka Big Cass in WWE) and Dustin Rhodes had a great showing in this match.

– Noam Dar (c) def. Dragon Lee with some help from Oro Mensah, Lash Legend & Jakara Jackson in a “British Rounds Rules” match to retain the NXT Heritage Cup

– Adam Cole def. Chris Jericho in an Unsanctioned Match after Cole wrapped a steel chain around his hand and kept punching Jericho in the head until the referee called for the bell.

During this match, ECW Legend Sabu brawled with Jericho and his men, and even put one of them through a Table. You can watch it below:

Britt Baker came out during the match to attack Jericho with a Kendo Stick. Saraya (fka Paige in WWE) came out and got beat up by Baker too.

– Ilja Dragunov def. Dijak in a Last Man Standing Match

– FTR (c) def. Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal to retain the AEW World Tag Team Championship

Mark Briscoe was the Special Guest Referee for this match. During the match, Jeff Jarrett accidentally hit Briscoe in the head with his Guitar. Aubrey Edwards then came out to replace Briscoe, but Karen Jarrett hit her in the head with a Guitar.

FTR eventually put Jarrett away with their finisher, with Briscoe counting the pinfall.

– Ricky Starks brawled with Bullet Club Gold backstage.

– In a backstage segment, Chris Jericho & Saraya challenged Adam Cole & Britt Baker to a Mixed Tag Team Match on Wednesday’s Dynamite.

– Gallus (c) def. The Creed Brothers to retain the NXT Tag Team Championship

– Wardlow (c) def. Christian Cage in a Ladder Match to retain the TNT Championship

Luchasaurus interfered on Christian’s behalf, which led to Arn Anderson (Wardlow’s manager) biting Luchasaurus’ hand and making him bleed. Wardlow then put him away with a Swanton Bomb from the top of a ladder through a table!

– Toni Storm def. Jamie Hayter (c) to win the AEW Women’s World Championship

The Outcasts attacked Jamie before the match. Britt Baker & Hikaru Shida came out to take out Saraya & Ruby Soho, but it wasn’t enough.

– Tiffany Stratton def. Lyra Valkyria to win the vacant NXT Women’s Championship

– House Of Black (c) def. Billy Gunn & The Acclaimed to retain the AEW World Trios Championship

During his rap before the match, Max Caster mentioned Dominik Mysterio being in a storyline relationship in WWE with Rhea Ripley (who is the real-life girlfriend of Buddy Matthews), when he said Buddy is getting cucked by a kid named Dominik.

– Jade Cargill (c) def. Taya Valkyrie to retain the TBS Women’s Championship

After the match, “Smart” Mark Sterling said Jade is ready to defend the Title against anybody, anytime. This leads to Kris Statlander making her return and beating Jade!

– Kris Statlander def. Jade Cargill (c) to win the TBS Women’s Championship

Jade’s 60-0 undefeated streak and 500+ day title reign is over.

– Carmelo Hayes (c) def. Bron Breakker to retain the NXT Championship

– MJF (c) def. “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry, Darby Allin and Sammy Guevara in a Fatal 4-Way Match to retain the AEW World Championship

Prior to the match, Sammy Guevara announced that his wife and fellow AEW wrestler Tay Melo is pregnant.
