On a recent episode of his weekly ‘What Happened When’ podcast, old school wrestling announcer Tony Schiavone spoke about the ‘WCW The Great American Bash 1998’ pay-per-view and the legendary – then still ongoing – winning streak of former NFL Star Bill Goldberg.

Tony, who currently works in AEW, noted that All Elite Wrestling has no plans to recreate Goldberg’s iconic undefeated run in World Championship Wrestling.

Below is what Schiavone said:

“We won’t recreate it.

It was just a combination of an idea by Kevin Sullivan, a guy that could pull it off, and just being in the right time.”

Tony Schiavone worked as a play-by-play commentator for Jim Crockett Promotions (1983-1989), the World Wrestling Federation (1989-1990) and Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling (1990-2001), before joining Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling in 2019.

Some fans compared AEW wrestler Jade Cargill to Goldberg, because of her undefeated streak.

However, Jade’s 60-0 undefeated streak came to an end at the AEW Double Or Nothing 2023 PPV in May, when a retuning Kris Statlander defeated her in an impromptu match and shocked the world by ending Jade’s 508-day reign as the TBS Women’s Champion.
