Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day, involving Drew McIntyre, CM Punk and John Cena.

• CM Punk has repeatedly cost Drew McIntyre the World Heavyweight Championship, including during McIntyre’s Money In The Bank cash-in, making it a triple threat with Damian Priest and Seth Rollins. Punk attacked McIntyre, allowing Priest to pin him for the win.

WWE has been planning this match for SummerSlam 2024 on August 3rd in Cleveland.

The Wrestling Observer noted that while the match is not 100% confirmed for SummerSlam, it is highly probable:

“So right now, it is not 100% as far as Punk and Drew at SummerSlam, I was told it is probable, and Punk was kind of asked about it. And he kind of beat around the bush. And he kind of said, I mean, it’s probably happening, but he kind of did say, it’s up to other people or whatever. He has to get cleared and everything by the doctors.

I was pretty much told they’re pretty confident in it. But you can’t go and say 100% because it isn’t 100%. But yeah, it’s been the hope. But it’s now more than a hope. Now, it’s the plan, for Drew McIntyre and Punk for SummerSlam.”

• In the main event of Money In The Bank in 2011, CM Punk defeated John Cena to become the WWE Champion for the first time ever.

These two former opponents reunited 13 years later at the same PPV/PLE. You can watch it below:

As we noted earlier, Punk said during the Money In The Bank 2024 post-show press conference that he’d like to face Cena one more time, during Cena’s retirement tour in 2025.
