AEW World Champion MJF lost to Wardlow at Double Or Nothing 2022 and cut his infamous promo on the Dynamite after that pay-per-view, in which he asked AEW President Tony Khan to fire him and called him a “mark”.
MJF disappeared from AEW programming for several months after that promo amid rumors that he was unhappy in the company due to the pay he was receiving.
The Devil returned to AEW at the 2022 All Out pay-per-view, where he became the #1 Contender for the AEW World Championship. It was also revealed that night that Khan agreed to give him a raise.
In the main event of Full Gear last year, MJF went on to defeat Jon Moxley with some help from William Regal to win the AEW World Championship, which cemented him as the top guy in All Elite Wrestling.
MJF has defeated some big names in the company and main evented All In a few weeks ago, which was the biggest show in company history.
The Wrestling Observer reports that MJF was subject to some resentment from the AEW locker room due to his push and his close relationship with Tony Khan.
However, it was stated that it was nothing serious and was just a normal thing which happens in most pro wrestling companies.
MJF’s AEW contract is set to expire on January 1, 2024.
