Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day, involving The Rock and Cody Rhodes.
• As we noted earlier, the Wrestling Observer reported that the storyline between Cody Rhodes and The Rock is 100% a work and it was done to get Cody more over as a babyface.
Regarding The Rock getting booed in the process, The Observer noted that The Great One doesn’t care about it because all he cares about is the increase of interest in the WWE product and the revenue drawn by WrestleMania 40:
“I think that there’s going to be a ton of people in that T-Mobile on Thursday. If they boo him or cheer him, and here’s the deal with [The Rock]. He didn’t care if he’s booed or cheered, I promise you he doesn’t care.
His validation is based on purely one thing, and that’s box office. That’s purely revenue. Boo, cheer, whatever. It’s like, did it draw a sell-out, and this was going to draw a sell-out either way. But as far as is the interest level in the product up? And if the interest level in the product is up, that’s the goal.
The goal at the end of the day is interest in the product however it is. Birmingham really doesn’t count so much because people didn’t know he was going to be there. But this one, this one counts. And it’s like they sold a lot of tickets in the end (for RAW). And that’s telling. I mean, there’s certainly no boycott here. And, you know, there’s certainly no lack of interest in this WrestleMania that’s for sure.”
