• Old School WCW/WWF Legend Would Have Celebrated His Birthday

Big Van Vader was most famous for his time in Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling between 1990 & 1995 and for his run in the World Wrestling Federation from 1996 till 1998.

Vader also wrestled for various other promotions such as New Japan Pro Wrestling, American Wrestling Association, Catch Wrestling Association, All Japan Pro Wrestling, Total Nonstop Action! and Pro Wrestling Noah.

He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by his son (former NXT Wrestler Jake Carter) on April 1, 2022, but unfortunately WWE failed to do it while he was still alive.

• Old School Wrestling Legend Would Have Celebrated His Birthday

Today would have been the birthday of Old School Wrestling Legend “Dr. Death” Steve Williams.

During his career, Williams wrestled for some of the biggest and most famous wrestling companies ever, such as the World Wrestling Federation (1998-1999), World Championship Wrestling (1988-1990, 1992, 1999) , Extreme Championship Wrestling (1996, 1997), UWF/Mid-South Wrestling (1982-1987) and All Japan Pro Wrestling.

In 1995 Jim Ross pushed hard for McMahon to bring Dr. Death to the World Wrestling Federation, with J.R. intending to get a legitimate tough guy who could shut up The Kliq and be immune to their bullsh*t and backstage politics.

Williams received an offer and was already booked to win the 1995 King of the Ring tournament and get the main event push that came with it, but unfortunately he was still under contractually obligated to work several upcoming AJPW shows, so it was impossible for him to accept the WWF’s offer.

He was the favorite to win the infamous Brawl For All tournament in 1998/1999, but competed with an injury, which caused him to lose to Bart Gunn, who ended up winning the entire thing.

Steve was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2021 as part of their annual “Legacy Wing” inductions.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY & REST IN PEACE!

Later on during the Monday Night Wars, Rogers also had a few stints as a singles wrestler in the WWF, WCW and ECW, but was mainly used as an enhancement talent.

In 1996 he returned to the WWF as Goldust’s unnamed bodyguard during the feud with The Ultimate Warrior, only to dissapear again and return in 1997 as “Tank”, an original member of ‘The Truth Commission’.

He still wrestled on the independent scene every now and then in the years before he sadly passed away.

• On This Day In Pro Wrestling History (May 14, 2021) – Old School ECW Legend Passed Away

On this day in 2021 we lost legendary Hardcore Wrestler & real life Bounty Hunter “The Original Gangsta” New Jack (Real name: Jerome Young) at the age of 58 due to a heart attack.

New Jack originally made a name for himself in Jim Cornette’s SMW Smoky Mountain Wrestling territory, where he formed ‘The Gangstas’ with his Tag Team partner Mustafa Saed, but soon jumped ship to Paul Heyman’s ECW Extreme Championship Wrestling, where he became a house hold name in Hardcore Wrestling and somewhat of an innovator when it comes to jumping of balconies during pro wrestling matches.

After ECW closed its doors in January 2001, New Jack continued to wrestle on the indies (with a few short stints in TNA in between) until he officially retired a few years ago. He has since came out of retirement quite a few times, to reunite The Gangstas with his old partner Mustafa.

REST IN PEACE NEW JACK!
