A lot of fans expected 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes to “Finish the Story” by defeating Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 39 – Night 2.
However, The Tribal Chief defeated The American Nightmare, with help from Solo Sikoa, and continued his historic title reign.
Now, fast forward to August, the Wrestling Observer is reporting that WWE Officials think they made the right decision by booking Roman to defeat Cody and continue his 1,000+ day title reign, as WWE’s business and viewership numbers increased after WrestleMania:
“Those in WWE are strong on the idea that growth is proof that the decision not to put the title on Rhodes at that time was the right one, and in theory, someday they will.”
Now, many believe Rhodes will ‘finish the story’ at WrestleMania 40 in 2024, in a rematch against Reigns.
Cody was recently put over in a big way by Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. WWE also released a documentary on Cody on Peacock recently.
All of this means that WWE is grooming Rhodes for the company’s top prize.
On this week’s RAW, it was teased that Cody will feud with Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Last year, Cody defeated Seth in 3 premium live event matches.
