• Backstage News On WWE Telling Bryan Danielson To Not Do The “Yes!” Chants

If you’ve ever been in an arena during a Bryan Danielson match – or honestly, anywhere wrestling fans gather – you’ve probably heard it echoing around you: “YES! YES! YES!” It’s one of the most infectious chants in wrestling history. But this past weekend, at Starrcast, Bryan Danielson dropped a fascinating nugget about that very chant that shows just how complicated the world of wrestling trademarks can be. Fans might assume WWE only recently told Danielson to knock it off with the “Yes!” thing. But nope – it turns out they’ve been trying to quiet the chant for years. According to Danielson, WWE even asked him not to use it after he left the company, arguing it belonged to their intellectual property vault.

So in AEW, Danielson mostly stayed away from leading the crowd in those familiar arm-pumping chants – not because he didn’t love it, but because WWE had basically told him, “Hands off.” But here’s where it gets really interesting. According to Fightful Select, in 2023, Danielson decided he’d try to claim the chant for himself and filed paperwork to trademark “Yes!” WWE, naturally, wasn’t thrilled. They fired back with an email, accusing him of stepping on their legal toes.

We still don’t know how the dispute has shaken out. The chant might technically live in a legal limbo, but that hasn’t stopped Danielson from letting it slip out once in a while. Funny enough, he’s not selling “Yes!” T-shirts or mugs (yet). Danielson said his manager tipped him off when the trademark became available, leaving the door open for potential “Yes!” branding down the line.

At the end of the day, whether it’s WWE’s property, Danielson’s trademark, or just wrestling’s collective soundtrack, fans are going to keep chanting “Yes!” whenever they see him. And that’s something no legal filing can ever fully silence.
