AEW President Tony Khan never followed up after his July 29, 2024 meeting with Shane McMahon.
According to Fightful Select, a source close to McMahon stated that while rumors suggested Shane asked for equity in AEW, the only confirmed request was his desire to “run things” in the company.
However, Shane O’Mac lacked the product knowledge to justify such a role, and Khan reportedly saw the idea as almost a joke.
Despite AEW’s lack of response, McMahon didn’t take it personally and recognized the talks wouldn’t lead anywhere. AEW sources confirmed Khan never spoke much about the meeting, only acknowledging it happened. While long-term business seems unlikely, a one-time cameo appearance isn’t ruled out.
As we noted earlier, Jonathan Coachman said on the ‘Behind the Turnbuckle’ podcast that Shane requested equity in All Elite Wrestling and full control of the show, leading Khan to ghost him rather than pursue further discussions.
Coachman noted that this was one of the rare times he agreed with Khan’s decision:
“I remember that picture that surfaced with Shane McMahon meeting Tony Khan, and there was all this speculation that he wanted to come into AEW. Then, all of a sudden, that talk just disappeared.
Well, I have it on good authority that Shane McMahon asked for the world—he wanted equity in the company, and he wanted to come in and run the entire show.
And honestly, it was probably the first time I said to myself, ‘I actually agree with Tony Khan ghosting him.’ Because Tony ghosted Shane—it wasn’t the other way around.”
