Below are some top WWE news stories of the day, involving Big E and Ric Flair.
• Former WWE Champion Big E is enjoying life outside the ring after a severe neck injury on the March 11, 2022 episode of SmackDown. During a match, he suffered a fractured C1 and C6 vertebrae after an overhead belly-to-belly suplex from Ridge Holland on the floor, where Big E landed head-first.
Although he hasn’t been medically cleared to wrestle, Big E has taken on various roles within WWE, such as talent scouting, recruiting, and making media appearances. He appreciates that he can live a normal life and maintain his gym routine without any discomfort.
In an interview on the “Getting Over” podcast, Big E shared an update on his health:
“Now we’re at 2 years and running since I broke my neck. I broke my C1 in two places, my C6 as well. I feel great; I have no issues with pain, no issues with discomfort, weakness, any of those things. My strength is great.
The only issue is my C1 is healing fibrously, which is great for normal day-to-day life, but it’s not turning into new bone and ossifying yet. They’re not going to clear me until that happens. It’s obviously a very important bone.
Right now, that is the waiting game. I did go to Cancun about a month ago for stem cells. We’ll see if that changes anything. Right now, I feel great. I’m just not in a position to be cleared quite yet.”
Initially, he didn’t realize the severity of his injury, as he felt no pain and could move his limbs. He was told he would recover in three months, but the bone didn’t heal properly.

• Ric Flair expressed his hopes on Busted Open Radio for his daughter, Charlotte Flair, to break his 16 World Titles record, but also mentioned he would be happy if John Cena achieved it first. Flair believes Cena won’t pursue breaking the record out of respect for him and considers Randy Orton another deserving candidate to break the record due to his long tenure at the top.
Randy is a 14-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion, tied with Charlotte, who is a 14-time (Women’s) World Champion. Many fans speculate that Cena might set a new record of 17 during his retirement tour in 2025.
Flair later addressed fan confusion about his comments on X to clarify his stance:
“There Has Been Way Too Much Attention Brought To This. Let’s Just Set The Record Straight For The Final Time. My First Choice Would Obviously Be The Queen @MsCharlotteWWE.
I Think The World Of My Friend @JohnCena, Who Is An Incredible Athlete & Genuine Person! I Will Be The First Person To Shake His Hand & Congratulate Him If He Breaks My Record As I Would For Anybody Who Would Break It.
When That Day Comes, It Will Be An Honor! WOOOOO!”
