Big Update Regarding Brock Lesnar’s Next Opponent & When He’ll Defend The Universal Title Next

Brock Lesnar WWF 2002

As seen at No Mercy 2017, Brock Lesnar survived multiple Powerslams from Braun Strowman and managed to hit an F5 on “The Monster Among Men” to defeat him and make his third consecutive PPV Title defense.

While many fans might not like this, but Brock Lesnar is done for the year. This means that there won’t be a televised Universal Title match for the rest of 2017. His next Title defense will now be at the Royal Rumble 2018 PPV. This is similar to his WWE Title run in 2014-2015, where he won the Title at SummerSlam 2014, defended the Title at Night of Champions 2014 in September and then his next Title defense was at Royal Rumble 2015.

While this is not confirmed by any means, there have been talks of doing a match between Brock Lesnar vs. Finn Balor for the Universal Title at Royal Rumble 2018. When Lesnar won the Universal Title back at WrestleMania 33, the following was the list of opponents that he would end up facing (depending on the number of PPVs he works):

– Roman Reigns

– Braun Strowman

– Samoa Joe

– Seth Rollins

– Bray Wyatt

– Finn Balor

Now, Lesnar has already faced Strowman & Joe. Lesnar will be facing Reigns at WrestleMania 34 (this has been the plan prior to WrestleMania 33!!) and Rollins is currently involved in the Raw Tag Team division (and that most likely isn’t expected to change).

So, the opponents that are left for Lesnar are Wyatt & Balor. At No Mercy 2017, Balor went on to defeat Wyatt and this was Wyatt’s second straight PPV loss to Balor. If they were going with Wyatt vs. Lesnar, then the WWE officials would’ve booked Wyatt to come out as the victor in his feud with Balor.

With that being said, the rumors regarding Lesnar vs. Balor for the Universal Title at Royal Rumble 2018 just might come true.
